Parts of a Landscape
- Foreground - Closest to the viewer the objects appear to be larger.
- Middle Ground - Between the foreground and the background.
- Background - Farther away they are much smaller in size, duller in color, and contain less detail .
- Space - Is one of the basic Elements of Art. It refers to the distance between or the area around and within shapes, forms, colors and lines. Space can be positive or negative. It includes the background, foreground and middle ground.
- Depth - Moving away from the viewer, distance from front to back.

- Overlap - Shaped in the distance will be overlapped by shapes that are closer.
- Shading - Add shading and shadows to 2-D objects making them look 3-D.
- Placement- Objects that are farther away are placed closer to the horizon line.
- Size- Objects that are far away appear smaller, object that are closer to the viewer appear larger.
- Value & Focus- Objects that are far away appear lighter in color and less clear than object that are closer.
